I am elated at the progess made in ct imaging of the chest to dx PE.As a pulmonary fellow in the late 60s early 70s perfusion lung scaning was being introduced.Over the years,we grew acustomed to the concept of low and high probability v/q scans but most were neither and were not that helpful. Now with increasingly precise imaging of pulmonary vessels we can see if clots are there or not.Seeing the clots beats the heck out of inferences based on V/Q study. The older flow sheets based on the V/Q scanprobability statements will be retired. Now you can do a ct to see if clots are in the lungs and do a duplex on the legs to see if a clot is there.
